The conference will take place in the John McIntyre Conference Centre, Pollock Halls Campus, 18 Holyrood Park Road, Edinburgh, EH16 5AY.

The Pollock Halls Campus is operated by the University of Edinburgh and boasts excellent conference facilities in an attractive location. The campus is within walking distance of the city centre; situated next to Arthur’s Seat and Holyrood Park – Edinburgh’s largest green space.

When searching for accommodation, please use the conference postcode (EH16 5AY) as a geographic reference point to estimate distance to the venues. 

If your budget per night is below £80

Accommodation is available on-site at Pollock Hall (campus accommodation) for around £50 per night for a single room. Room availability will be limited, so book early. 

Other cheap option include smaller guest houses, or bed and breakfast accommodation. We suggest using the B&B filter on Tripadvisor. Good deals can also be found on AirBnB.

Mid range – budget £80-120 per night 

Chain hotel near the venue:  Premier Inn Edinburgh Central on Lauriston Place. Chain hotel convenient both for the station and the venue:  Ibis Edinburgh Centre South Bridge . Close to the train station (and airport bus terminus):  Motel1 Edinburgh-Royal – 10-15 minutes by foot to the venue, uphill.  

Higher budget – over £120 per night

Salisbury Green Hotel & Bistro – hotel within conference venue.


Visitors coming to the UK from outside of the European Economic Area (EEA) will need a visa or entry clearance at the border.

This process can take time, so if you require a visa you are strongly advised to apply as soon as possible.

  1. Non-visa nationals can travel to the UK without applying for a visa in advance. However, they are advised to carry with them, in their hand luggage, a letter of invitation and other supporting documents.
  2. For those requiring a UK visa, if your visa application is made in good time, but ultimately refused by UK Home office, then CRFR will make every effort to reimburse your registration fee.


Edinburgh boasts an international airport with flights from North America and many European and UK destinations. Taxi, tram and bus links connect the airport to the city centre with a journey time of 25-30 minutes.  

By Air

John McIntyre Conference Centre is about 8 miles from Edinburgh International Airport. A taxi will cost around £25, or take an Airlink bus service to Waverley Bridge, an adult open return is £9 and a single £4.50. 

By Rail

John McIntyre Conference Centre is 2 miles from Edinburgh Waverley, our main station. A taxi or bus will take around 10 minutes.  

By Bus

Lothian Buses run many routes from across the city to the central campus. A single ticket costs £1.70 and a day ticket is £4.00.  

By Tram

John McIntyre Conference Centre is about two miles from St Andrew's Square, the main tram terminus. There are regular tram services to and from Edinburgh International Airport. Once you arrive in the city, please follow the bus or taxi instructions above to get to John McIntyre Conference Centre.  

By Taxi

A taxi from St. Andrew Square Bus Station or Princess Street to John McIntyre Conference Centre will cost approximately £7 and take 5-10 minutes.  

By Car

If you're coming to Edinburgh from the South, take the A720; City of Edinburgh Bypass, then take the A7 Old Dalkeith Road exit at the Sheriffhall Roundabout going towards the City Centre. Continue straight for approximately 3 miles. Just past the Royal Commonwealth Pool at the lights, turn right onto Holyrood Park Road. John McIntyre Conference Centre is the second turning on the right. There is limited on-site parking on a first-come first-served basis.

To encourage participation, we are offering a tiered fee structure, with reduced registration fees for delegates from low or middle-income countries (LMIC), upper middle-income countries (UMIC) as well as for student and CRFR associate researchers.

Early bird conference rates include entry to all conference sessions, as well as refreshment and lunch for the days you attend.
